About FileViewKit

Who runs it

FileViewKit is built and run by an independent developer in South Africa.

It is a one-person project, not a company with a sales team.

Why it exists

People get sent Microsoft Access files and have no easy way to open them, especially on a Mac.

Access only runs on Windows, and the alternatives are paid apps or websites that want you to upload your database. I wanted a viewer that is free and that does not need your data to leave your machine.

How the privacy guarantee works

The viewer is a static web page. There is no server behind it that accepts files.

When you choose a file, your browser reads it and a script on the page decodes it locally. You can confirm this in your browser's developer tools: open the Network tab, load a file, and see that no upload happens. The privacy page covers the rest.
